Nacido en Siria y de padres armenios, lleva más de veinte años trabajando y viviendo en Grecia. Precisamente fue allí donde descubrió los encantadores elementos de la música del Este. Comenzó a tocar muy joven y es con sus instrumentos como mejor expresa su sensibilidad.

Domina varios instrumentos como el nay, cümbüs, nashatkar o percusiones, pero es con el oud con el instrumento que mejor expresa los frutos de su permanente búsqueda musical. Búsqueda que, por cierto, transciende más allá del tiempo o fronteras geográficas.

Haig Yazdjian se convirtió pronto en uno de los más populares intérpretes del oud y uno de los más característicos vocalistas. La publicación de su primer álbum TALAR, editado 1996 en el sello LIBRA MUSIC, aceleró su popularidad, pero más allá de eso, le lanzó como una de las promesas de su generación en la composición.

Es uno de los músicos que acompañan en sus giras a Loreena McKennitt.

Luis Delgado - Al Andalus (1993)

Luis Delgado (n. Madrid, España; 16 de julio de 1956) es un músico, compositor, multiinstrumentista y productor musical español.

Nace en el barrio de Chamberí, en Madrid, el 16 de Julio de 1956 y realiza sus estudios de música con D. Manuel Grandío. Su primer concierto lo da a los 14 años como miembro de la Orquesta de Laudes "Gaspar Sanz".Ha pertenecido a formaciones musicales de diversos tipos y estilos: Imán (rock andaluz); Atrium Musicae de Madrid (música antigua); Babia (fusión Oriente-Occidente); Finis Africae (fusión étnica), Cálamus (música medieval española ), La Musgaña (música tradicional), Música Antigua (música Medieval), grupo hispano-marroquí Ibn Baya (música andalusí)], etc.
Como productor ha trabajado con Amancio Prada, Joaquín Díaz, María del Mar Bonet, Nuestro Pequeño Mundo, Emilio Cao, Luis Paniagua, Javier Bergia. Como músico de estudio y directo ha grabado para Pablo Guerrero, Oskorri, Vainica Doble, Kepa Junkera, y Rosendo entre otros.
Forma parte del grupo "Los Músicos de Urueña", colabora habitualmente con el ensemble francés de música medieval Le Tre Fontane, acompaña a Amancio Prada en escena, y junto a Cuco Pérez y a Diego Galaz lleva al directo el repertorio "Apasionante Música de Cine" y "La noche del Gorrión", sobre el repertorio de Edith Piaf. En 1985 creó una productora de nuevas músicas firmadas por autores e intérpretes españoles, “El Cometa de Madrid”.
Es asesor musical y compositor permanente en el Planetario de Madrid.
Ha compuesto varias bandas sonoras para programas de televisión, destacando la serie de 26 capítulo sobre el mundo árabe "Alquibla", escrita por Juan Goytisolo y dirigida por Rafael Carratalá.

Actual mailed letters and their stories are transposed into eight gripping programmatic compositions by Iraqi-American composer and oud player, Rahim AlHaj with string quintet (2 violins, viola, cello, contrabass) and percussion. He says, “Music can make us laugh, make us cry, make us march into war. The LP-box pictured above contains six LP's that is half of the LP's issued from the concerts held at the festival, anyone holding volume 2 [7-12] is hereby most encouraged to step forward and share with us this assumedly equally precious collection of Arabo-Andalusian music. I will in the following days posts all the above listed LP's as individual posts and this post contains only the discographic information.

Indeed any other discographic info concerning the documentation of this festival or any of the others (see this post for one of the records from the third festival held in 1972) are most welcome. I owe this information as well as the opportunity to digitise and document these records to my good friend "The Mine of Vinyl". He is a veritable "Saluki hound" for finding rare and obsolete vinyl. I am sure, as the saluki is considered clean, also according to Islamic faith, that there is no coincidence that it was he, who found this precious box of Arabo-Andalusian gems in a thrift shop run by the local Salvation Army here. In itself a good story of record hunting. Thank you once again my noble "Saluki Vinyl Hound".

These LPs were published in Algeria by Mehradjane on behalf of La Radiodiffusion Télévision Algérienne. Probably they were pressed in France.
In Algeria there are three traditions of classical arabo-andalusian music: Gharnati of Tlemcen and Oran (western Algeria), Canaa of Algiers and central Algeria and Malouf of Constantine and Annaba (eastern Algeria). All three traditions were represented in this festival. Also the traditions of the neighbouring countries Morocco, Tunisia and Lybia, and traditions having some relationships with arabo-andalusian music from Egypt and Turkey.
Almost all information about Arabo-Andalusian music and it's musicians one can find in the internet is in French. See below references to the singers on this LP.

This is a very good record with several hard to find musical traditions represented. Among the music there are some good tracks of sawt my favourite tracks are b2 & b3 but in general it is an interesting recording that should be brought back to a new audience. Many thanks goes to the good hunter zwan who's generous sharing of all vinyl prey is most appreciated. In this case however the hunt is not for the kill but the exact opposite, to bring back to life! How many have seen this LP before? Raise your hands now. I was not one of them. But there are many more good ones in this series so any help to collect them are most welcome! Below are but a few listed on the back of the sleeve. I'll post a more complete list here on Anthems of Luobaniya later.

Some years ago, at the first outings of the Parisian collective called Acid Arab, I evaluated the project negatively. It seemed to me the classic crap, good for compilation like Buddah Bar or similar. Lately I came back on my feet after listening to the track that the group of DJ has made with Sadat and Alaa50, two of the leading exponents of the Egyptian Mahragan scene.

So I decided to publish this post dedicated to them.

The Acid Arab project was founded in 2012 in Paris by Guido Minisky and Hervé Carvalho, two DJs who fell in love with oriental music during a trip to Tunisia.
Their main objective will be to create a space for oriental culture within contemporary Western electronic music, a music representative of our day (after all, it is impossible to deny the influence that Arab culture has had on French society even if some jerk sovranist insist on rejecting it). The result was a psychedelic mix of strings, percussion and melodies from the Middle East and North Africa with the basic structures of House and Techno Music.

Their first work, released in 2013, was an album of remixes and collaborations entitled "Acid Arab Collections". This was followed by a 12 "in 2015 entitled" Djazirat El Maghreb.

Meanwhile, the group has expanded and joined the original duo Pierrot Casanova, Nicolas Borne and the Algerian keyboard player Kenzi Bourras. With this formation the collective made in 2016 the album "Musique De France", a disc that at first I snubbed but that lately I really appreciate.

The Acid Arab project has been carried around for festivals all over the world for some years. Do they do Tecnho? do Arabian music? Sometimes doubts arise about the proposed music. Much more than many explanations I think the most exhaustive words about their work are on their Facebook page:

“We are fascinated by eastern music and its codes, such as complex rhythmic structures (binary and ternary superimposing upon each other), which drive dancers to trance just like acid house does. We’d like to take these codes and use analog techno devices (beatboxes, bassline machines) to create something new : an oriental acid music which combines the coldness of techno and the emotional and dramatic power of the East. Our knowledge of the dancefloor is now digested and we have spent night after night digging records and files to know more about arabic music. We don’t want to be standardbearers of mixing whatever, we just want to be of our days. talking about mixing means there’s a split, a binary vision of an occidental vs oriental world – this is has-been. We don’t paste oriental sounds on occidental beats, we want to embody both cultures without pretending to reinvent oriental music or fooling ourselves by believing we’re inventing eastern dance music. We just want to be part of it, and contribute to this brilliant and enormous masterpiece that this music is, and has been for thousands of years.”


Alcuni anni or sono, alle prime uscite del collettivo parigino denominato Acid Arab, ho valutato il progetto negativamente. Mi sembrava la classica cazzata, buona per compilation tipo Buddah Bar o simili. Ultimamente sono tornato su i miei passi dopo aver ascoltato la traccia che il gruppo di dj ha realizzato con Sadat e Alaa 50, due dei principali esponenti della scena Mahragan egiziana.

Ho deciso quindi di pubblicare questo post a loro dedicato.

Nel mentre il gruppo si è allargato , infatti al duo originario si sono uniti Pierrot Casanova, Nicolas Borne e il tastierista algerino Kenzi Bourras. Con questa formazione il collettivo ha realizzato nel 2016 l'album " Musique De France", disco che in un primo momento ho snobbato ma che ultimamente apprezzo molto.

Da anni ormai il progetto Acid Arab viene portato in giro per i festival di tutto il mondo. Fanno Tecnho ? fanno Musica Araba ? Ha volte sorgono dei dubbi circa la musica proposta . Molto più di tante spiegazioni credo che le parole più esaustive riguardo al loro lavoro si trovino sulla loro pagina Facebook :

"Siamo affascinati dalla musica orientale e dai suoi codici, come le strutture ritmiche complesse (binarie e ternarie sovrapposte l'una sull'altra), che portano chi danza alla trance esattamente come fa l'Acid House. Vorremmo prendere questi codici e usare dispositivi analogici (beatbox, bassline, macchine varie ) per creare qualcosa di nuovo: una musica orientale acida che combini la freddezza della techno con il potere emotivo e drammatico della musica orientale . La nostra conoscenza del dancefloor è ormai acquisita e abbiamo passato notti su notte a scavare tra dischi e file per saperne di più sulla musica araba. Non vogliamo mixare in modo standardizzato qualsiasi cosa, vogliamo solo essere dei giorni nostri . Parlare di mixaggio significa ammettere una visione binaria che vede il mondo occidentale contro il mondo orientale : questo è stato fino ad ora . Non non limitiamo incolliamo i suoni orientali sui ritmi occidentali, vogliamo incarnare entrambe le culture senza pretendere di reinventare la musica orientale o ingannare noi stessi credendo di inventare musica dance orientale. Vogliamo solo farne parte e contribuire al geniale ed enorme capolavoro che è questa musica , cosi come è stata per migliaia di anni ".

‏On side 1 is a rather awful modern version of classical Arab music with a far too big orchestra inspired by western symphonic orchestras with a huge mixed female and male chorus. Traditionally this music used to be performed by a solo singer and a small ensemble, the so-called Takht, with just an 'Ud, a Qanun, a Nay, maybe a violin, and one or two percussionists on the Riqq and Darbouka.
‏Side 2 has a very beautiful and traditional example of the Arabo-Andalusian music of Tlemcen, in the so-called Gharnati (coming from Granada) style.

La Dôtu Lado swings as much as it seduces. It maps new musical routes linking the Cape Verdean island sounds of batuque and funanل, with deep candomblé inspired rhythms and the heart tugging sway of fado. And in doing so, it has opened up a fascinating narrative on the slave trade, spirituality and love.

Coladera are two musicians from Brazil & Portugal, who have invited various musicians from other Portuguese-speaking countries like Cape Verde and Angola to participate on this album.

Their first official international release have crafted an exquisite and exploratory sound, adding new layers upon their individual and rich traditions. Singer-guitarist Vitor Santana from Belo Horizonte, Portuguese singer-guitarist Joao Pires are named after one of Cape Verde's musical traditions, Coladeira – a form that borrows melodies from fado and rhythms from Brazil and Angola.

"The Outer Limits" is the advance single from the upcoming reissue release of the 3rd LP by Art Jackson's Atrocity, 1977's Tribute To Sun Ra. This preview is a rare club performance recorded in 1976 at the Spot Me A Five Club in East St. Louis, just prior to the album's official studio sessions. Which, by the way, features vocal contributions from Mr. Sun Ra himself (recorded exclusively by Mr. Art Jackson himself). It drops soon, so save your allowance money.

"The Outer Limits" gets its title from guitarist Jackson's otherworldly fret work, which recalls the mysterious allure of the namesake 60s TV show's musical cues. This single's b-side, on the other hand, is a recently unearthed recording from the 1974 Gout sessions. It's a 20-minute long alternate take of "Tomato Reign" - a mind-numbingly chaotic "GOUTTAKE" that is not included on the upcoming Tribute To Sun Ra LP. The free-form noise crowd might appreciate... or not.

Independently released in 1977, Tribute To Sun Ra was the third and final official album from Art Jackson’s Atrocity. Jackson’s original plan for this LP was to enter the studio with material more structured than The Atrocity’s previous releases, a notion supported by this record’s 1976 (pre-sessions) live recording, “The Outer Limits,” taped at the Spot Me A Five Club in East St. Louis. But something happened that would alter Jackson’s intent… a chance meeting with legendary experimental jazz great Sun Ra, whose unexplained presence at the sessions would ultimately transform the LP’s stylistic approach. It was a seismic shift… or, perhaps, just a re-affirmation of Art Jackson’s core, anti-music intuition. Because, instead of tightening the reins, Jackson decided to completely abandon the group’s prepared material, resulting in The Atrocity’s fiercest, most chaotic album to date.

What listeners will hear on Tribute To Sun Ra is an Atrocity untethered by expectations, forged by alchemy and club work, and firing on all cylinders. An aggressive improvisational sonic assault that would even incorporate recordings of Sun Ra himself, whose distinctive vocals pepper the LP with ruminations on interstellar travel, alien space angels, and Ra's thoughts on an adopted planet in flux. These exclusive Sun Ra vocals have never been heard in any other context, and are available here for the first time in over four decades. There is speculation that Saturn’s man-about-town also performed additional keyboard work on the Hendrix suggestion, “6th Stone From The Sun,” but that suspicion has never been verified by Sun Ra’s estate.

Tribute To Sun Ra’s cover, by the way, is different from the original 1977 indie LP (see that one here), and is now updated for the digital age... and more akin to last year's advance single cover, “The Outer Limits.” Click the art for larger images. BBC RADIOPHONIC WORKSHOP - A RETROSPECTIVE es un album esencial en un sitio web como éste. Presenta el trabajo del muy perdido y olvidado Taller Radiofónico de la BBC entre 1958 y 1997, que incluye música de "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy", el programa de noticias "PM" de Radio 4, "The Demon Headmaster", los programas del Mundo Natural de la BBC, "Los astronautas" de Peter Howell y mucho más. La mayoría del álbum es una reedición en CD de dos LP de Radiophonic Workshop de la BBC: "21" y "Soundhouse", lanzados en 1979 y 1983, pero también contienen algunas joyas y rarezas que nunca antes fueron lanzadas. Por supuesto, la colección contiene quizás la grabación más famosa del taller: el tema de Dr Who y el efecto de sonido Tardis.
